Precision Lapping & Deburring Machines

Automated precision lapping and deburring systems delivering consistent surface finishes, micro-burr removal, and repeatable quality control

Precision Lapping & Deburring Machines

Curtis Assemble & Test Ltd design and manufacture automated precision lapping and deburring machines to deliver consistent surface finishes and controlled removal of micro burrs. These systems are used where component quality, dimensional accuracy, and surface integrity are critical to downstream performance, helping meet the demanding requirements of the automotive and advanced manufacturing industries.

Our lapping and deburring solutions are engineered to support high-volume production environments as well as specialist precision applications. Each system is tailored to the component geometry, material, and finish requirements, ensuring reliable, repeatable results across every cycle.

Automated Lapping for Controlled Surface Finishing

Precision lapping is achieved through carefully controlled mechanical processes that apply consistent pressure and motion to the component surface. CAT systems can incorporate automated part handling, where components are picked from input pallets and inspected by an integrated vision system to verify orientation and alignment before processing. Where required, parts can be automatically re-orientated or flipped prior to placement on the lapping table.

Using programmable lapping patterns, speeds, applied loads, and number of laps, the machine performs precise and repeatable lapping cycles, including figure-of-eight motion where required, to deliver uniform material removal and controlled surface finishes.

Multiple lapping stages can be configured within a single machine, allowing manufacturers to fine-tune surface characteristics and achieve tight quality tolerances. Integrated quality assurance systems can automatically identify and segregate non-conforming parts, helping reduce scrap, improve component performance, and maintain consistent product quality across every cycle.

Integrated Robotics, Vision & Quality Control

Robotic handling and integrated vision systems play a key role in ensuring accuracy throughout the lapping and deburring process. Components are automatically inspected for orientation and alignment before processing, with robots adjusting part position as required to maintain consistency.

Post-process inspection ensures only compliant components progress through production, with non-conforming parts automatically segregated. This closed-loop approach provides confidence in quality, reduces manual handling, and supports full traceability within automated manufacturing environments.
